H   POST GAME REPORTING

Pete Waldmeir wrote in THE DETROIT NEWS.

“A week ago, a caravan of 15 Michigan Students   motored to East Lansing in the middle of the night  to steal the paper-mache head of Sparty, the  Michigan State Mascot, from the living room of a  fraternity house.

They got the wrong address.

They should have gone into the Cherry Lane   Apartments, MSUs married housing row and stolen  Jimmy Raye, the star quarterback of Saturday’s win  over Michigan.

It wouldn’t have taken 15 guys and  a truck”.

Jack Berry wrote in the Detroit Free Press,

“It is good to know that in these times of hippies, love-ins,

anti-war demonstrations, LSD and pot parties that college kids still be college kids.”

“The Delta Sigma Phi boys from Ann Arbor swiped MSU’s fiberglass-bead Sparty mascot, repainted it maize and blue and brought it into the stadium just before kickoff.”

The crowd of 103,210, second largest ever to see a football game – there were 24 more at the 1949 Michigan-MSU game – roared while the folks in the MSU section sat a little embarrassed.”

However, when the 25 Michigan Men escorting Wolveriney into the Stadium, WITH TICKETS STILL IN THEIR POCKETS, are counted, it created the largest crowd ever.
